Since my wedding fever seems to be sticking around, I've been looking up different ideas on stumble.com. I love that web site. It has been super easy to just choose weddings as my interest and surf the inter-web on just that topic.
It seems to come up with idea after idea for saving money, going green, and do-it-yourself. While I'm not a big going green person, I really appreciate the other two ideas. I am just starting out in life with the whole new job, new person, (hopefully) new location. Also I love the idea of creating things that are just a bit, or a lot, more me.
My color theme of Alexandrite didn't start out that way. I've always loved dark blue and silver. So I grew up thinking that was going to be my colors. Then I thought about a Chinese theme. Not because I'm oriental, I'm very white, just because I love the colors and the traditions and themes. But when I found my ring was going to have my birthstone on it, green and reddish-purple all the way. A lot more "me" and a little more creative.
The same thing kind of happened with my flower choices. I thought I was going to have roses and babies breath, in a very traditional kind of floral arrangement. Of course lately I kinda started to day dream of a lily based wedding, with every bridesmaid being able to choose their favorite lily while mine would be a tiger lily, my favorite. Then, during stumbling I came across the idea that screamed me louder than any real flower could. I found a way to make flowers out of the pages of books. That nailed it. I adore reading, to the point that I can ignore everything in favor of finding out what happens next. My favorite books? Harry Potter. That's right, I am a Potterhead. So now the goal is to have a bridal shower where all of my bridesmaids create their bouquets out of a different HP book.
The boys, on the other hand, are incorporating His passion into the boutonnieres. This may sound weird at first, but he loves to fly fish. So that means, that's right, that he is going to create fly fishing "Flies" inspired boutonnieres for all the groomsmen. They are following the same color scheme, and may have a paper flower or two, but these are going to be something the is so him.
When people see the flowers of the wedding, I want them to be so overcome with recognition that they say, this is totally Joshua and Hattie.
The center pieces are still coming along. I am juggling a couple different ideas right now. I like them all pretty much equally for different reasons. I like floating candles in bubble soap. The kind where children can use "wands" to blow bubbles through the whole reception. Evil? Yes. Messy? Yes. Could it be awesome? Also yes.
Next I like the idea of doilie balls. Kinda like the string balls from when I was a kid. I would glue doilies around a balloon with an opening aroung the knot. Then I just let it dry, pop the balloon and place them over tea lights and decorate. Very pretty, and very easy to personalize.
Finally I just can't get a wine glass with a tea light and a miniature translucent lampshades on the wine glasses. It looks so classy in my head... And on my entertainment center.
I think the flowers will probably go best with the doilie balls, or maybe even stick with string balls, but we shall have to see.

Pre Proposal 1
First post. I'm not much of a blogger, but I wanted to start getting my ideas down in something of an order. My idea are, obviously, about my dream wedding. Now, I'm fully aware that I'm not engaged yet, but that is just a technicality.
You see, a year ago, my boyfriend Joshua and I, went to a mall for some 'blow your money' shopping. We had both just received rather large paychecks and wanted to have some fun. So we stopped at Rogers and Hollands to goof around and give him some ideas about what I wanted; you know, in a ring. So I ended up sitting down with one of their very nice sales men and we went over what I dreamed about. It had to be an emerald cut, and no larger than 1 carrot. There needed to be a stone on each side and it had to be in white gold or a similar shade. Now this was pretty average for an engagement ring, but then I dropped the bomb on them.
The two other stones needed to be my birth stone. I'm a June baby, so they thought 'pearl or moonstone?' Wrong. I know what my real birth stone is, alexandrite. This is the stone that, even when it is created, costs 40% more than a diamond. The most expensive gemstone on the market. For those of you who don't know, the alexandrite is a dual color stone. In the sunlight it is an emerald green, while in candle or artificial light, it is a purple or red. This is completely beautiful to me, and fits me and my lifestyle perfectly.
Even with how expensive it was going to be, Joshua sat down right then and there and had them order my perfect ring. I have no idea what the prongs look like, no idea what the wedding band looks like, and no one gets to see the ring, besides him, until its on my hand. But I'm perfectly happy.
Gosh, this may be a long first blog. I hadn't intended to explain this much but now you understand why not being engaged is a technicality. I'm not willing to be engaged until the ring is on my finger, but I know we will be married within the next two, hopefully just the next, year.
Now, a year later I found out that the ring is paid off and he is paying for the alexandrite. It couldn't be put in the stone until he had paid for the ring, and now I found out he had a picture of it sent to his phone. He didn't let me see it and deleted it before I found out. Well, all of this gave me wedding fever. So I started planning my dream wedding and finally figured out my main colors. I'm designing my wedding after my birth stone...or at least most of it.
